Why is the Red Sea so-called?

The Red Sea is considered the warmest and at the same time the most dangerous. The fact is that enough living creatures live in it that can harm a person. Despite this, many tourists fell in love with relaxing on the coast of this reservoir. In the material “DIP” – about why it received such a name.

There are several versions as to why the sea is still called Red. All of them are very different from each other.

Seaweed

As biologists suggest, the Red Sea got its name because of a special type of algae. They are called Trichodesmium erythraeum and contain a red pigment that can color water. During the flowering period, the stain becomes so abundant that the water in the sea becomes red. As a rule, this occurs during the dry summer.

Corals

It’s no secret that many people come to Egypt for diving. They want to see not only the rich fauna of Egypt but also the flora, which is represented by numerous coral reefs. They, like algae, give the water a red color. Perhaps the sea got its name because of them.

Parts of the world

In many ancient legends, parts of the world were divided into colors. For example, the east is white, black is north, and the south is red. Of this, some seas were named depending on their location’s cardinal points.

Various languages

In many languages, the sea is indeed called Red so the name could come from ancient languages. However, there are other variations of the name. For example, in the Bible and Hebrew, it is called “reed”.
