Two Air France pilots were suspended after a brawl on a Geneva-Paris flight in June. This was reported by the airline’s spokesperson to The Guardian.
Despite the physical altercation, the plane landed safely.
La Tribune reported that the two pilots got into an argument shortly after the plane took off and grabbed each other by the collars after one of the pilots was punched.
The crew intervened and dispersed them, one remaining in the cockpit until the plane landed in Paris.
News of the fight comes after the French aviation watchdog said on Wednesday that some Air France pilots had not followed safety protocols.
The report focused on a fuel leak on the company’s flight from Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, to Paris in December 2020. The plane was then diverted, but the pilots did not cut the engine power and land as soon as possible, as dictated by the procedures that must be followed in such situations. There was a risk of the engine catching fire.
This and other similar incidents also mentioned in the report show how some pilots act on their own accord and do not follow established safety protocols.
The airline says it operates thousands of flights every day, and the report sheds light on just four incidents between 2017 and 2020.
On the other hand, Air France pilots’ organizations have defended the actions of the airline’s pilots in such emergencies and say that all pilots take flight safety very seriously.
Meanwhile, the agency is investigating another airline incident, this time from April, when a flight from New York to Paris encountered a control problem just before landing in the French capital.
