Turkey sets new high-temperature record

On August 15, an absolute temperature record was set in Turkey in the entire history of meteorological observations in the country.

In the city of Sarijakaya, which is located in the province of Eskisehir in western Turkey, thermometers showed +49.5 °C. This phenomenon was reported by representatives of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change.

The previous maximum was +49.1 °C and was recorded in the city of Cizre, located in the province of Shirnak in the southeast of the country, in July 2021.

A well-known meteorological expert, Professor Orhan Shen, warned earlier that the heat wave in central Turkey will last until Sunday. While in the Marmara region, including Istanbul, the temperature remains normal, ranging from +28 °C to +30 °C, the humidity remains high – about 80%.
