The tragic shark incident did not occur in Egypt this time – a tourist died as a result of a shark attack during New Year’s celebrations in Hawaii. According to Nation World News, 39-year-old surfer Jason Carter was attacked by a shark off the beach of Paya Bay.
The Maui Police Department said the incident occurred around 11 a.m. on Dec. 31, 2023, when Carter entered the water to surf. About 20 minutes later he was attacked by a shark.
Tourist Jason Carter was rescued by a jet ski rescue team who performed intense maneuvers to save his life. He was later transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center where he tragically passed away due to the severity of the injuries sustained in the attack. But despite the efforts of doctors, the tourist died.
Following the tragic incident, authorities closed the beach to the public and launched an investigation to determine the details of what happened. Also, to prevent future incidents and protect swimmers, shark warning signs have been installed on beaches near the affected bay.
