Photos of the Egyptian pyramid aroused the unprecedented interest of tourists to attractions. There is a reason: the photos show that the Sphinx – the oldest sculpture in Giza – suddenly closed its eyes. Tourists, officials, and mystics are arguing about the causes of the phenomenon.
Here is what the expat wrote in this blog: Now there are many photos of the Sphinx on the Internet with his eyes closed. They are made by both Egyptians and tourists. The photo is not fake (fake would have been exposed long ago). But whether he closed his eyes, whether this is such a perspective, or something happened to the stone that caused the effect of “closed eyes” is still unclear.
It is still unclear whether this is a fake, but Facebook is discussing this news. Not indifferent publish photos, which clearly show the absence of pupils in the statue. The former confidently declares that this is a terrible sign and a harbinger of an impending apocalypse. Others (astrologers) claim that in this way the Sphinx defended its country, that difficult times are coming, and Egypt will become the safest place. Others practice wit. According to the author, there is a “sea” of jokes, memes, and comics that explain why the Sphinx suddenly “decided to take a nap”: “Maybe he ate a lot of cookies on the recent Eid al-Adha?”, “Or just tired of not sleeping more than 2,000 years? ”
On the other hand, the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities denies that the monument suddenly closed its eyes, and all the photos that show it are fabricated: the closed eyes of the legendary statue can be explained by a change of perspective or lighting. “A source in the Ministry of Antiquities confirmed that the photo of the Sphinx was a forgery because it was taken at an angle opposite to the sun. Due to the weak camera, his facial features were not shown, which is why the image looked like this,” the woman was quoted as saying.
However, the mystery aroused great interest among tourists and the Egyptians themselves: now they go in crowds to the sculpture to approach the monument and personally see the new wonder of the world. “So if this is a marketing move for the development of tourism in Egypt – then, as they say, the prank was a success,” she added.
A brief history of the Sphinx from an expat living in Egypt: “The Egyptian Sphinx is one of the most mysterious statues on our planet. It is a demigod with a human head and a lion’s body. And his face is not just any, but (according to one version) Pharaoh Khafre; if so, the statue was built in 2558-2531. B.C. The Sphinx is 73 meters long, 20 meters high and 19 meters wide. Tourists are brought to it after visiting the great pyramids on the Giza plateau. According to the most popular version, he guards the tombs of the pharaohs. But this is not true – in the end, no remains of the pharaohs were found in the pyramids, and its true purpose – is also a great mystery.
