The Thai authorities have decided to change the official name of the capital in foreign languages - now the city will not be called Bangkok, but Krung Thep Maha Nakhon (City of Angels Great Capital).
This decision was made yesterday, February 15, by the Royal Academic Council of Thailand as part of a project to update the names of countries, territories, administrative zones and capitals. At the same time, the document specifies that it is allowed “to use both names – Bangkok and Krung Thep Maha Nakhon.”
Recall that the capital of Thailand has always been called in Thai Krung Thep Maha Nakhon, while in English the name Bangkok has historically been fixed. In November 2001, the kingdom announced the use of Bangkok as its official name.
