The planned return of Chinese tourists will bring a new increase in covid measures for tourists. At least Thailand has already stunned all tourists with the news that the authorities have decided to introduce new restrictions on entry into the kingdom, and again turn to anti-covid barriers. According to the proposal of the Ministry of Health, any tourist at the entrance will have to provide proof that he received at least two doses of the vaccine before arrival. And although the measure is planned to be introduced through returning Chinese, it will be applied to tourists of all nationalities.
The Thai Ministry of Health plans to re-introduce the old entry requirement amid fears that Chinese tourists will bring many Covid-19 cases to Thailand. Moreover, the head of the department Anutin Charnvirakul did not specify when the measure will come into force. Still, it may happen sometime before January 12, when the first flight from China to Thailand should arrive at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport.
However, the implementation of this measure has not yet been confirmed. The Cabinet must first approve the requirement for vaccination and other measures of Ministers and there is little hope that they will not pass this barrier. As well as other proposals, such as the return of compulsory Covid-insurance and the return of the mask regime on public transport and in public places.
