Thailand plans to declare the coronavirus an “endemic disease” by the end of this year, regardless of what the World Health Organization (WHO) decides. This will allow the country to return the full flow of tourists, not limited to sandboxes and other special programs for tourists. The statement was made by the Thai Ministry of Health: according to it, the decision was made at a meeting of the National Committee on Infectious Diseases.
“Thailand will develop its own academically acceptable criteria for determining whether Covid-19 is a pandemic or an endemic,” Thai experts said. According to them, this decision will be made on the basis of three criteria, all of which are close to implementation in Thailand. Namely:
- 80% of people at risk had to be vaccinated with at least two doses of Covid-19 vaccine.
- The daily level of Covid-19 infection should be less than 10,000 cases per day, and this figure has not exceeded Thailand since October 18.

- The mortality rate should not exceed 0.1%, which is about ninth of the current level. about 0.92%.
“As mortality rates fall and infections become less serious and people are fully vaccinated, Covid-19 may retreat and flare up, but the main danger is over. If this situation does not change, the Ministry of Health will officially announce that the spread of Covid-19 virus as a pandemic in Thailand is over, “- say Thai experts.
They also added that the Thai government intends to work actively to achieve these goals, instead of allowing Covid-19 to take turns. And even to return to the country “full-scale” tourist flow.
