Phuket has launched a new system for tracking the offenses of foreign tourists. It is similar to the rules of football, where players are given red cards and removed from the field. The new system, which is still in experimental mode, involves the deportation of a traveler after two offenses and receiving a red card. This was announced to journalists on Wednesday by Major General of the Immigration Service of the Thai province Prapansak Prasansuk.
According to him, a foreigner who is convicted of any violations of the order will receive a yellow card. The corresponding notification will be sent to the embassy of the state of which he is a citizen. At the same time, the tourist will be able to continue to rest in Phuket, but next time he will not be allowed into Thailand due to “unreliability”.
If during his vacation he again commits any illegal act, he will already receive a red card. This will lead to the immediate expulsion of the tourist from the country.
However, Prapansak Prasansuk, during his speech, did not specify the specific violations that would entail receiving yellow and red cards. However, he cited statistics for what actions foreigners most often come to the attention of the Thai police. These include riding mopeds and motorcycles without a helmet, not having a driver’s license, and working in a local tourism business without official permission from the Thai immigration authorities.
The police call on the people of the province to actively cooperate with law enforcement officers and report all violations of the law by foreigners. Officials are confident that in this way they will be able to increase the tourist attractiveness of Phuket.
