In Rome, they want to limit visits to one of the most popular attractions – the Trevi Fountain. The initiative will be considered by the Italian Ministry of Culture at the request of the city council.
The reason for this request was the increasing cases of disrespectful attitudes towards the cultural monument. The latest incident that caused a wave of local outrage occurred on July 27: a tourist bathed in the Trevi Fountain, diving there with one of his statues. This tourist was later fined by the police, but the city council believes that this will not help to avoid such incidents in the future.
If the Ministry of Culture considers the arguments of the city council convincing, it will develop a mechanism that will reduce the number of tourists at the famous fountain. According to the media, this can be both the installation of turnstiles and a fee for a visit (due to the influx of tourists, Rome, for example, began to take money for entering the Pantheon).
