On Saturday, the Russian was returning by car through the Vaalimaaa-Torfyanovka checkpoint. After passport control, customs officers approached the car, and the tourist himself asked if they wanted to inspect the car. In response, he was asked how much money he was carrying and asked to show it. After the Russian showed the contents of the wallet, the customs officers seized all the euro notes and said that the export of cash currency to the Russian Federation is prohibited.
They offered to either transfer the money at the border to someone who travels to Finland or leaves it and picks it up later at the same checkpoint since the storage period is not limited.
The Finns referred to the paragraph of the Customs Regulations, which prohibits the export of European currency to Russia, except when it is done for personal use. Since the amount is not indicated, everything is decided at the discretion of the customs officers.
