Germany announced the holding of Oktoberfest. After two years of downtime due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Munich will host the same legendary German festival for travelers and beer lovers, Oktoberfest, from September 17 to October 3, 2022. According to the expectations of the organizers, the event will be visited by more than 6 million tourists who will drink 8 million liters of beer.
According to the official website of the festival, there will be no restrictions regarding the coronavirus, so there is no question of capacity restrictions. There is enough space for everyone. “Judging by the political situation, the cancellation of the 2022 Oktoberfest is impossible. In the end, everyone has to decide for themselves whether they want to celebrate at the Volksfest and to what extent,” Mayor Dieter Reuter explained, adding that he was looking forward to the festival and wished those who would attend have a great time.
However, there are some changes that tourists should be aware of. In particular, the city council decided that the new opening hours will be moved an hour earlier compared to previous festivals. On weekdays, the opening is scheduled at 9:00 a.m. In addition, the tents will be open 30 minutes longer, until 10:30 p.m., while the restaurant Bräurosl Peter Reicher, where the festival will take place, has a capacity of 8,250 people and another 560 guests can be accommodated in the outdoor area.
The mayor previously said that holding a festival in his country during the war going on in Ukraine is not the best. “I cannot imagine that I will happily enjoy the atmosphere of the festival, while in Ukraine, in our partner city Kyiv, people die every day in a two-and-a-half-hour flight. In the end, everyone will have to decide for themselves whether they are in the mood to celebrate,” Reuters said.
We will remind you that Germany faced an energy crisis, because is trying to reduce its dependence on Russian gas and oil by at least 2% and replenish the state treasury. In particular, at the expense of the Oktoberfest festival. It was usually visited by more than six million tourists, and a staff of 13,000 people managed to pour 7.8 million liters of beer. The roughly two-week event brings in an estimated 1.23 billion euros to the local economy.
According to the Munich Oktoberfest website, 6.3 million tourists were registered in 2019 and 7.3 million liters of beer were consumed. In addition, the festival currently employs about 8,000 permanent and 5,000 temporary employees, and the price of a beer starts from 10.80 to 11.80 euros, while in 2018 the price of a beer was slightly lower.
