Greece reported stunning tourism figures despite the absence of Russian and Chinese tourists

The Central Bank of Greece has published stunning statistics. According to the information, the Greek travel and tourism sector broke its record for the corresponding period last year, despite the absence of Russian, Ukrainian, and Chinese tourists.

According to the Minister of Tourism of Greece, Vassilis Kikilias, published by local publications, Greece ranks first in Europe in terms of the inflow of tourists from the following countries:

France
Israel
Serbia
Romania

“Our two main goals, the continuation of the tourist season and the attraction of travelers who spend large sums of money on their vacations, have been achieved,” the official said.

Regarding the shortage of personnel in the tourism sector, which was created during the coronavirus pandemic, the minister called on entrepreneurs to create new high-quality and well-paid jobs. Kikilias said that the employees of the tourism sector are ambassadors of the country, and everyone should be concerned about the tourism product of the republic, which should be at a high level so that travelers are not disappointed and choose Greece for further trips.

Data recently presented by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority showed that in the first five months of this year, 14 million passengers arrived in the country, which is 377.7% more than in the same period of 2021 – the compensation of tourist flow from the pre-pandemic level was 86%. In addition, the agency noted that 879,069 airline seats were booked between June 27 and July 3, and a total of 939,943 for the week after July 10, or 1,819,012 seats, which if filled would mean Greece received a total of 1.81 million tourists. for two weeks.

Earlier, data from the Central Bank of Greece showed that Greece recorded a staggering 884% increase in the number of foreign travelers in April. In addition, the same source reported that in April 2022, an increase of 1,000 percent in relevant revenues was recorded compared to the indicators of last April. A report published earlier by the European Tourism Commission (ETC) revealed that the Hellenic Republic is among the five most popular holiday destinations among European travelers.
