German tourism is preparing to lose big money

Tourism for the “Russian rich” is dead – this assessment was voiced in the German media by representatives of “elite” travel agencies. Helmut Kugler, a representative of one of them, told about it – his company Pure Germany specialized in individual high-quality trips to German-speaking countries for “elite” tourists. They were offered a full package: transfer, if desired in an armored limousine, luxury accommodation, private shopping, museum visits, drinks and more. The cost of such a tour per day is from 15,000 to 50,000 euros.

According to the German, there were not many “super-rich” among Russians. But of the 600 or so trips he and his team organize each year, about 30 were for Russian guests, mostly businessmen. They were in demand in Berlin, Munich and Vienna, as well as ski resorts in Austria and Switzerland. According to him, theoretically rich tourists on their own planes could fly – but two bookings from Russian customers this spring were canceled.

“Tourism depends on the freedom of movement of rich Russians,” Mr Kluger said. He said that many elite hotels will be affected, such as the 5-star Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski in Munich, where the first cancellations have already taken place, or the legendary Sacher Hotel in Vienna, which is also particularly popular with Russian tourists. for one night starts from 500 euros, and some combinations of suites can sometimes cost 9,000 euros per night. According to Sacher Managing Director Matthias Winkler, so far orders from Russia make up less than five percent of the total number of orders. “Reservations from Russia, they usually belong to higher categories: about 20-25 percent more expensive than the average. Now, of course, there are zero orders from Russia, “he said. However, not only the Russian market has suffered – rich Americans are also afraid of Europe: “Because no one can yet assess how dangerous 500 or 1,000 kilometers of hostilities,” – said the Viennese hotel. Germany will also add that it is ready for financial losses, for the sake of peace in Ukraine and a halt to hostilities.
