It seems that a new trend is beginning in passenger aviation: after the “pandemic” years, British Airways has decided to abandon the recently introduced practice of refusing free meals in economy class – as it turned out, such savings on passengers go sideways for the carrier. This was stated by CEO of British Airways Sean Doyle. At the same time, Ukrainian airlines continue to reduce their costs in every possible way, at the expense of passengers.
It will be recalled that in pre-pandemic times, six years ago, British Airways cut free food and water on board. And on a short-haul flight – to complete absence. The measure was taken as part of a decision to cut costs by £ 400 million a year.
According to experts, as a result, the airline’s brand has suffered – because British Airways essentially shared the policy of low-cost carriers such as Ryanair and easyJet. At the same time, the airline was considered more high-end than low-cost carriers – as a result of which passengers were outraged and voted in rubles – that is, the pound – in the direction of cheaper carriers.
As a result, British Airways returned free food and drinks for economy class passengers. However, this first happened during the slow recovery of pandemic flights – as a kind of gesture of goodwill. However, the airline apologized for the reduction in free snacks, which was adopted six years ago.
“Economy class passengers on BA short-haul flights are now entitled to a free snack and a bottle of water. We decided to leave the offer after receiving positive feedback from customers. Refusing free food and drink was a mistake.
You also told us that you appreciate the free water and snacks that we offer on short haul flights in our Euro Traveler showroom, so we will continue to do so as well, ”said the carrier.
