The Cypriot authorities threaten criminal liability to Russians who entered the island through the northern part, and “not through legal checkpoints.”
This was stated by the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the Russian Federation, Kipros Yorgallis, against the backdrop of media reports about the possible launch of flights from Russia to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and the opening of a consular post there.
According to him, arriving in the TRNC directly on a flight from Russia or Turkey would be considered a crime. Entry is considered legal only through the Republic of Cyprus with the passage of ground checkpoints in Nicosia.
