Be careful, the lights go out: popular tourist spots and resorts in Spain will be plunged into darkness

The “energy saving regime” adopted by Spain will disappoint tourists, but most importantly, it can turn out to be dangerous. This assessment was voiced by experts in the tourist media after the decision of the Spanish authorities to “turn off the lights”. The lighting of many buildings, including monuments, as well as supermarkets, will be turned off at ten in the evening. This policy also implies other unpleasant features for tourists.

Energy-saving measures in Spain could mean some parts of the country plunge into darkness early, experts say. Spain is implementing a new lighting policy that will order public buildings, shops, and supermarkets to switch off all lights from 10 pm. This will affect cathedrals and museums popular with tourists, as well as promenades in resorts.

According to some data, these measures will last until November 1, 2023, no less. Others are counting on a “test” shutdown showing how much they can save. However, experts are already sure that this event will disappoint tourists at best. At worst, the number of “criminal elements” is expected to increase on the dark streets.

Another unpleasant energy-saving measure is the law limiting the use of air conditioners in public places. Everywhere, including hotels, train stations, airports, and even public and commercial establishments, are prohibited by this law from setting their air conditioners below 27 degrees Celsius during the summer months.
