According to the Yeni Akit newspaper, last night an explosion thundered in Istanbul in the Fatih district, which led to panic among the population.
The cause of the explosion was a fire in a technically faulty car. A fire broke out that spread to seven nearby cars, as well as a building and an ATM nearby. One of the cars exploded.
The incident happened on Kojamustafa Pasha Street, located 5 km from Sultanahmet Square, which is popular with tourists. The owner of the car that started the fire was walking towards his car when he noticed that the car started to smoke. He stopped at the side of the road and turned to other men for help, but the car caught fire.
Firefighters arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire. According to preliminary data, no one was hurt.
The police found no evidence that it was a terrorist attack or arson.
Panic among the people arose due to the fact that last weekend a terrorist attack took place on the pedestrian Istiklal Street in the center of Istanbul, as a result of which six people were killed and 81 injured.
