Amsterdam wants to charge transit passengers for transfers at Schiphol Airport. The lower house of the country’s parliament voted for the introduction of such a tax.
If the bill is approved, passengers transferring between flights at Schiphol Airport will have to pay an additional tax of 50 euros. This will make Schiphol the only airport in the world with paid transit.
According to the chairman of the Dutch airline association BARIN, Marnix Frutema, the changes will negatively affect the work of the country’s main carrier KLM. The airline itself also criticized the bill, calling it incomprehensible and extremely harmful.
