Ryanair Switches to Digital Boarding Passes: New Rules Effective from November 12

Ryanair переходить на цифрові посадкові талони: нові правила діють з 12 листопада

Airline Ryanair has introduced new rules for all passengers — from now on, boarding passes will be available exclusively in digital format. Starting November 12, check-in and ticket downloads must be done only through the official Ryanair mobile app, reports The Independent.

Full Transition Away from Paper Tickets

From now on, passengers are required to use electronic boarding passes available in the airline’s app — paper versions will no longer be accepted.
Ryanair explains that this decision is part of its effort to reduce paper use, minimize environmental impact, and further digitize customer service. According to the company, the change will allow it to save around 300 tons of paper annually.

However, experts note that the reform may cause inconvenience for some passengers, especially those who do not use smartphones or still prefer printed tickets.

Ryanair: “The Future of Travel Is Digital”

Ryanair’s Marketing Director Dara Brady emphasized that switching to fully digital boarding passes will make the travel process faster, easier, and more eco-friendly.

“Four out of five of our customers already use digital boarding passes, so this is a natural next step,” he said.

CEO Michael O’Leary added that while some initial challenges may occur, more than 80% of passengers already use the Ryanair mobile app, making this transition “a natural evolution of our service.”

If Your Phone Dies or Gets Lost

In such cases, passengers can obtain a free boarding pass at the airport before passing through security.
If the issue occurs after the security check, Ryanair staff will assist, as all passenger data is already stored in the airline’s system.

For Passengers Without Smartphones

Those who don’t have a smartphone can check in online via the Ryanair website, and a printed boarding pass will be issued at the check-in desk.

Online check-in remains mandatory for everyone. Passengers who fail to check in beforehand will be able to do so at the airport, but for an additional fee — between €30 and €55, depending on the country.

At the same time, in some destinations, such as Morocco, a printed boarding pass is still required.
