According to NASA, the steroid with a diameter of 330 meters and a height of the Eiffel Tower will approach Earth on December 11. This asteroid is a frequent visitor to space around the Earth and is known to scientists.
The distance over which the asteroid 4660 Nereus will fly will be about 4 million kilometers.
According to NASA’s classification, it is a “potentially hazardous object”.
The asteroid was discovered in 1982. It orbits the Sun for 664 days, which means that it passes the Earth roughly every 10 years or so. It belongs to the group of near-Earth asteroids – Apollo.
They are named after the first Apollo discovered by this group in 1932.
The Asterank database puts Nereus at $ 4.71 billion because it has rich deposits of nickel, iron and cobalt.
