Russian “long-term tourists” who buy real estate in Turkey risk falling under the cap of the CIA. This news was published by the Turkish newspaper Yeni Şafak.
As the publication assures, representatives of the US CIA began to show interest in real estate, which Russians are actively buying in Turkey, and to threaten local business circles of developers with negative consequences of cooperation with Russia.
In particular, as part of the “monitoring of sanctions”, the employees of the US agency also interviewed local businessmen by phone about “how many houses they sold to the Russians” and “in what currency and through which bank.”
All this was connected with the fact that a resident of the American intelligence agency threatened businessmen who trade with citizens of the Russian Federation. The head of the US intelligence agency in Turkey was present at these meetings.
We will remind you that the Association of Industrialists and Businessmen of Turkey (TÜSİAD), which includes many hoteliers and travel companies, received a threatening letter from the US Treasury earlier. The association confirmed the fact of receiving a letter from the US Treasury – it contained a warning for Turkish companies – not to work with Russian institutions and businessmen who are under sanctions. Otherwise, Turkish business is at risk of falling under secondary sanctions. Read details at this link.
We will remind, earlier “DIP” wrote that Turkish tourism was scared by the introduction of an embargo on flights to Turkey: Russian tourists may be left without planes, more details here.
