Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told the Italian parliament today that his country, facing a Russian invasion, was on the brink of survival, and warned that Moscow’s goal was to spread the war to the rest of Europe, Reuters reported.
“For Russian troops, Ukraine is a door to Europe, where they want to penetrate, but barbarism cannot be allowed to prevail,” Zelensky said. He addressed the Italian deputies via video link.
Ukraine demonstrates “heroic resistance” to the Russian invasion. This was stated by Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, speaking before parliament following Zelensky. He said Italy would support Ukraine’s desire to join the European Union.
“The arrogance of the Russian government is contrary to the dignity of the Ukrainian people, who managed to curb Moscow’s expansionist goals and make the invading army pay a huge price,” the Italian Prime Minister said.
