Zelensky to Russian journalists: Ukraine is ready to discuss neutral status

Ukraine is ready to discuss neutral status within the framework of a peace agreement with Russia, but it must be guaranteed by third countries and put to a referendum, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told Reuters today.

This is a 90-minute video conference with Russian journalists. Russian authorities have warned Russian media not to broadcast the interview, according to Reuters.

In the interview, Zelensky spoke Russian all the time. In it, he notes that the Russian invasion of Ukraine has led to the destruction of Russian-speaking cities and destruction greater than that caused by the Chechen wars.

“Security guarantees and neutral status, the non-nuclear status of our country. We are ready for this. This is the most important thing,” Zelensky said in an interview.

According to the Ukrainian leader, Ukrainian negotiators in talks with Russia are also discussing the use of the Russian language in Ukraine.
