Zelensky named the number of Ukrainian soldiers killed in the war with Russia

The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated that about 2,500-3,000 Ukrainian servicemen have died in the war with the Russian Federation so far, UNIAN reports citing an interview with Zelensky CNN.

For comparison, the number of dead Russian servicemen today is about 19-20 thousand people, said the Ukrainian president.

The head of state added that about 10,000 Ukrainian servicemen were injured and “it is difficult to say how many of them will survive.”

He noted that the number of civilian casualties is more difficult to estimate.

“It is very difficult to talk about the civilian population, because in the southern part of our country, where cities and villages are blocked – Kherson, Berdyansk, further east Mariupol, and the area east where Volnovakha – we just do not know how many people died. the blocked area, “Zelensky said.

Ukrainian police said yesterday that the bodies of more than 900 civilians were found near the capital Kyiv, most of whom were shot dead.

This startling number came shortly after Russia’s Defense Ministry promised to step up missile strikes on Kyiv in response to Ukraine’s alleged attacks on Russian territory, the AP reported. The warning came in connection with the sudden loss of Moscow’s flagship in the Black Sea, which, according to a senior US defense official, was shot down by at least one Ukrainian missile.

Andriy Nebitov, Kyiv Oblast Police Chief, said the bodies were dumped in the streets or buried in mass graves. He cited police estimates that 95 percent of the victims died from gunshot wounds.

“Therefore, we understand that during the (Russian) occupation, people were simply shot in the streets,” Nebitov said. He added that new bodies are found under the rubble and in mass graves every day. “The largest number of victims was found in Bucha, where there are more than 350 bodies,” Nebitov said.

At the same time, the Ukrainian prosecutor’s office said it had launched an investigation into the deaths of 10 civilians and the wounding of 35 people as a result of the shelling of the Kharkiv City Duma by Russian troops, UNIAN reports. According to the report, a 7-month-old child was among the dead. Several houses were damaged or destroyed, prosecutors said.
