US President Joe Biden has announced $ 1 billion in new security assistance and the deployment of more long-range weapons in Ukraine, reassuring the ally of America’s “unprecedented” support for the war with Russia.
Funds approved as Russian troops approach the besieged Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, include $ 200 million over the weekend and $ 800 million in new funds from a bailout package approved by Congress last week.
“This is a direct supply of equipment from our Ministry of Defense to the Ukrainian military to help them fight this invasion,” said Biden, who also announced US assistance to Ukraine in the form of “additional long-range anti-aircraft systems.”
