Ukraine and Turkey close to free trade agreement: Foreign Minister

For Ukraine and Turkey to conclude a free trade agreement, it remains to take the last step, the most important and most sensitive, which requires a compromise from both sides.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said this today during a conversation with journalists following a diplomatic forum in Antalya, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“We are one step away from concluding a Free Trade Agreement. But frankly, this is the most difficult step for both countries to take. We have to reconcile trading positions, which is very sensitive for the economies of both countries. We can reach an agreement only through a compromise, which will be accepted by both sides, making concessions,” Kuleba said.

The Minister is convinced that the result that the conclusion of the Free Trade Agreement will bring to both countries will compensate for all the concessions made.

“Our delegation is ready to come to Ankara to make further progress towards the finalization of the agreement. Because we are absolutely committed to concluding this agreement at the political level. We must maintain a balance of interests. To achieve this, experts from both countries must sit down and reach an agreement. There is political will on the part of both countries, at the level of our presidents. The only question is this difficult, but inevitable step,” the minister added.
