The southern Spanish village of Fuentes and Andalusia has changed its name to Ukraine in solidarity with the people of an Eastern European country that is waging a defensive war over 4,000 km away, BTA reports.
Some streets in a quiet town east of Seville with a population of just over 7,000 have been renamed Kyiv, Odessa and Mariupol. At the entrance to the village there is a sign with the flowers of the national flag of Ukraine.
“The main goal is to raise awareness about the conflict in Ukraine, as well as about the countries that are currently at war,” said Mayor Francisco Martinez. He said his fellow villagers had raised 3,500 euros to build a refugee center.
The village wants to house up to 25 refugees or families.
We will remind, earlier we reported that “In the Spanish bar three Russians brutally beat the bartender from Ukraine (VIDEO)“.
