Captain of the first rank Andriy Paliy, Deputy Commander of the Black Sea Fleet (Black Sea Fleet), died during the war in Ukraine in the battles for Mariupol, Sevastopol Governor Mykhailo Razvozzhayev told TASS.
Sevastopol, which is the main base of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, is located on the Crimean peninsula, annexed by Russia in 2014.
“In the battles for the liberation of Mariupol from the Ukrainian Nazis, the deputy commander of the Black Sea Fleet, Captain First Rank Andriy Mykolayovych Paliy, died. In 1993 he refused to take the oath of allegiance to Ukraine and remained loyal to Russia by joining the Northern Fleet. He was a very open and decent man,” – said in a statement.
Russia’s navy did not respond to a request from Reuters to confirm this information.
