Award for bravery to a Ukrainian soldier who refused to hand over Serpent’s Island to the Russian fleet in the early days of the invasion.
Roman Gribov received an order for displaying the “strength of the Ukrainian spirit.” It was he who created the most memorable phrase since the beginning of the war. The audio recording of his words became an inspiration to people all over the world and even appeared on billboards in Ukraine, as well as slogans during protests against the Russian invasion.
In the first days after Gribov and 13 other soldiers marched against the Russian troops, their fate was unclear. It was believed that they were killed, but later it turned out that they were captured.
