Russians used phosphorus bombs near Kiev

Russian troops shelled the Ukrainian cities of Irpen and Gostomel in the Kiev region with phosphorus bombs. This was announced by the mayor of Irpin Alexander Markushin.

“Russian occupiers used banned phosphorus weapons on the eastern and western outskirts of Kyiv. The target was the Khostomel-Irpin area, ”wrote Alexander Markushin.

International law prohibits the use of phosphorus bombs in densely populated areas due to their enormous firepower. The mayor of Irpin pointed out that the use of such weapons against civilians is a crime against humanity and a violation of the 1949 Geneva Convention.

Russia has already used phosphorus weapons in Ukraine. 10 days ago, such bombs fell in the city of Popasna, Donetsk region. In Syria, Russian troops also used these weapons, especially during the bombing of the cities of Idlib and Raqqa. There, the Russians burned entire districts of the city.

Phosphorus bomb. How it works?

After the explosion, phosphorus shells cover the surface with a burning substance, most often white phosphorus. It burns at temperatures in excess of 800 degrees Celsius, and upon impact with a target generates a thermal pulse that causes huge fires of the attacked objects. It can be compared to napalm.

This substance, when it enters the human body, causes huge and very specific burns, and also, due to its toxicity, damages such internal organs as the heart, kidneys and liver. Removal of wounds after such burns requires very specialized medical care.
