– A Russian soldier shot an 11-year-old girl in the face while being evacuated from Mariupol on the Sea of Azov, but the child survived, CNN, whose correspondent visited the child in the hospital, told CNN.
The bullet went through the jaw and hit the root of the tongue. The girl, who was shot 9 days ago, is undergoing rehabilitation in the hospital, but due to the fact that the bullet damaged her vocal cords, she cannot speak loudly.
The girl was shot without warning at a checkpoint near Vasiluvka, when she and her mother, sister and grandmother were driving from Mariupol under Russian fire.
According to the girl’s mother, when the Russian military realized what had happened, they gave the girl first aid and sent her to a hospital in the Russian-occupied city of Tokmok. From there, a Red Cross car took her to a hospital in Zaporozhye for a life-saving operation.
