The Russian Air Force said it had destroyed a missile arsenal in the Ivano-Frankivsk region with a hypersonic missile, according to DPA.
The Dagger missile hit and destroyed an underground ammunition depot in Delyatyn in southwestern Ukraine yesterday, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman General Igor Konashenkov said today.
The information cannot be confirmed, but if it is true, it will be the first time since the start of the war that Russia announced the use of its new air-to-ground ballistic missile. According to the ministry, this will be the first combat use of the missile.
Dagger missiles are launched by MiG-31 fighters and, according to Russia, can hit targets at a distance of up to 2000 km. Hypersonic missiles are several times faster than the speed of sound and fly at speeds of more than 6,000 kilometers per hour.
Konashenkov also said that Russian troops used the Bastion anti-ship missile to strike Ukrainian military facilities near the Black Sea port of Odessa. Russia first used the Bastion during the fighting in Syria in 2016, according to the Associated Press.
