On Good Friday, the Greeks pray for Mariupol

Authorities on both sides of the war must protect the people of Mariupol, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias said on social media.

On Good Friday, church bells ring in Greece with grief. Greeks and foreigners who came for Easter take part in the Mass. They pray for an end to the war and the rescue of thousands of ethnic Greeks in Mariupol. TV channels broadcast the ritual live in churches and monasteries, and state television broadcasts from the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

Many churches and NGOs raise money, clothing, and food for Ukraine’s children.

Many refugees are also in the church praying for salvation and peace.

All outlets are closed until noon, which allows employees to go to church. Restaurants are also closed because the Greeks observe a strict fast on Good Friday.

However, due to tourists arriving, there is heavy traffic on all roads. Police have increased the number of control groups.
