Well-known American journalist and documentary filmmaker Brent Renaud died in Ukraine today, the New York Times reports. The publication quotes the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, but clarifies that the famous journalist did not work for him, as reported.
According to Ukrainian authorities, Renaud died in Irpen, one of the suburbs of the Ukrainian capital, which has been under intense shelling by Russian troops in recent days.
Today, the Kyiv Oblast Police Chief said that a New York Times journalist had been killed and another journalist injured, according to Reuters.
The American newspaper said it was deeply saddened by the news of the journalist’s death, noting that he had worked for several American media outlets in the past, including the New York Times, but was not currently in Ukraine as its envoy.
Initial information that Renaud worked for the newspaper was probably due to the fact that he was found to have an accreditation card for the newspaper, but it was issued to him to work in Ukraine many years ago.
