Ombudsman of Ukraine Lyudmila Denisova said that since the beginning of the war with Russia, 148 Ukrainian children have died and 232 have been injured. More than 2 million children have been forced to leave the country, according to the UN.
“As of 8:00 a.m. on March 31, according to the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations and other sources, since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, 148 children have been killed and 232 injured,” Denisova wrote.
As the press secretary emphasized, it is not possible to determine the real number of killed and wounded children because of the constant battles with the Russian military in the cities of Ukraine.
Internally displaced persons and to other countries
The UN Children’s Fund UNICEF said in a joint statement released with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees UNHCR that, as of last Wednesday, more than 2 million children had already fled Ukraine, and another 2.5 million were rescued. forced to leave their homes and take refuge in other parts of the country. UNHCR reported that more than 1.1 million children from Ukraine have arrived in Poland, and hundreds of thousands in Romania, Moldova, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
UNHCR data suggests that more than 100 Ukrainian children have died since the start of the war, but, as the organization emphasizes, this information may be underestimated.
