“May his life and self-sacrifice inspire the world to fight (…) against the forces of darkness,” the President of Ukraine wrote in a letter of condolences to the family of American journalist Brent Renault, who died in Ukraine.
A letter from Vladimir Zelensky to the family of an American journalist is quoted by CNN.
“With deep sadness, I would like to express my sincere condolences to you in connection with the loss of your son and brother Brent Renault,” Zelensky said in a letter.
“With courage and determination, he traveled to the most dangerous war zones to film unprecedented brutality and evil, including what my people faced,” the president wrote.
Worked on a documentary about the invasion of Ukraine
Brent Renault died on Sunday in Irpen near Kiev, where he was working on a documentary for TIME Studios, a sister editorial office of the American magazine Time.
Time Editor-in-Chief Edward Felsenthal and TIME Studios President Jan Orefis said in a statement that Renaud was “an award-winning filmmaker and journalist who touched on the most difficult topics around the world.”
Felsenthal and Orefice stressed that “it is imperative that journalists can safely cover the invasion and the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.”
