German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock has said that new Strela anti-aircraft missiles are coming to Ukraine from Germany, Reuters and DPA reported.
“I can clearly say that Arrow’s new supply is already approaching,” Burbock told the German parliament. She said that the missiles stored in the warehouses of the army of the former East Germany were sent to Ukraine after the delay in delivery.
“We are one of the biggest suppliers in this situation. We are not proud of that, but this is what we need to do to help Ukraine,” she said.
Burbock also said that the first flight of Ukrainian refugees from Moldova to Germany will take place on Friday or Saturday.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has prompted Germany to change its traditional policy of refusing to send weapons to conflict zones, but the Ukrainian government is unhappy with the delay in supplies, according to Reuters. DPA notes that Ukraine has so far received 500 Arrow missiles from Germany against the expected 2,700.
