As a result of artillery shelling of the suburbs of the southern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhia, nine people were killed and 17 were injured. This was announced by Deputy Mayor Anatoly Kurtiyev, according to Reuters.
According to him, a 38-hour truce was declared in the area. He added that Zaporizhia was shelled by Russian troops with mortars, tanks, helicopters and missile systems.
Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko called on the West to supply Ukraine with weapons for the war against Russia. “Please help us,” the former professional boxer said in a statement from the Italian Corriere della Sera, published today and quoted by DPA.
Ukraine is able to close its airspace on its own, but it needs “appropriate weapons.” Klitschko notes that more than 200 civilians have been killed in Kyiv to date and that the city still has about two million inhabitants. The mayor called on the West to suspend economic relations with Russia because “Putin is using every euro to strengthen his army.”
