NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said Russia could try to use chemical weapons after invading Ukraine and said it would be a war crime, Reuters reported.
“In recent days, we have heard absurd allegations about chemical and biological weapons laboratories.”
Stoltenberg stated this in an interview with the German newspaper Welt am Sonntag. He added that the Kremlin is fabricating a false pretext to justify something that cannot be justified.
“Now that these false accusations have been made, we must be vigilant, because it is possible that Russia itself is planning operations with chemical weapons, fabricating these lies. That would be a war crime,” Stoltenberg said.
He added that while the Ukrainian people are courageously resisting the Russian invasion, the coming days are likely to bring even greater hardship.
