Dubai has the potential to become an international center for medical tourism and plastic surgery: by 2028, this market is expected to reach US$ 58.78 billion (globally).
In recent years, the aesthetic medicine industry has become one of the important factors in the development of medical tourism in the UAE. Thus, cosmetic surgery is one of the five most popular procedures among medical tourists visiting the emirate.
Dubai will host the Annual World Congress of the International Confederation of Societies of Plastic Surgery (ICOPLAST) from 5 to 7 May 2023, bringing together world-renowned facelift and surgical experts.
The event will attract over 1,500 delegates from 60 international societies and guests from over 112 countries. Plastic surgeons, aesthetic and anti-aging physicians, medical students, nurses, and industry leaders will meet to discuss medical innovation.
The global cosmetic surgery market is expected to grow from US$ 46.02 billion in 2021 to US$ 58.78 billion in 2028 despite the worldwide impact of COVID-19.
According to the Medical Tourism Index 2020-2021, Dubai was ranked sixth in the world as the city offering the best medical services for tourists. The International Healthcare Research Centre compiled the rating.
It evaluated indicators such as the state of the medical tourism industry, the attractiveness of the destination itself, and the quality of medical care – in 46 cities around the world.
The medical tourism sector is expected to grow by another 25% over the next 10 years. Canada topped the rankings, while the top five also included Singapore, Japan, Spain, and the United Kingdom.
