US combat mission in Iraq to end before the end of the year

Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazimi and US President Joe Biden met at the White House.

The day before, the American leader said that the US military mission in Iraq would be completed by the end of this year.

However, unlike Afghanistan, the US military will remain in the country and provide advisory services to local forces.

“We support a growing democracy in Iraq and make sure elections are held in October. We are also committed to our security cooperation. Our common fight against the Islamic State is vital to stability in the region. Our counterterrorism engagement will continue even then. when we get to this new phase, which we will talk about, “said Joe Biden.

Recently, Iranian drones have repeatedly attacked US bases in Iraq, fueling tensions in the region.

There are now about 2,500 American troops in the Arab Republic. There were roughly 3,000 last year, but former US President Donald Trump has cut their numbers.

Joe Biden did not specify how many troops will remain in Iraq by the end of the year, but he promised to send 500 thousand doses of the coronavirus vaccine to the republic.

As vice president of Barack Obama’s government, Biden was in charge of Iraqi politics and visited the country on numerous occasions.
