In the north of Attica, not far from the Greek capital of Athens, a strong forest fire is raging.
According to local authorities, several fires were recorded in the area at once – in Arta, Mani, Laconia, and Elis. Now the fire is spreading over a wider area of the Penteli mountain range. 600 residents were evacuated.
Hundreds of firefighters, dozens of cars, 15 aircraft, and 9 helicopters took part in extinguishing the fire. By this morning, when the fires could not be localized, police and army forces were involved. Medical units are on high alert.
Extinguishing the fire is hampered by strong winds.
