EU residents made 1.08 billion tourist trips with at least one overnight stay in 2022, up 23% (202 million) compared to 2021, Eurostat reports.
The most common trip in 2022 was for personal reasons (976 million times, accounting for 91% of the total). In 9% of cases (about 100 million times), trips were made for business purposes.
On average, EU residents spent €87 per hotel night, up 30% from 2021, when the average hotel night was €67.
The most expensive night in a hotel was for residents of Luxembourg (€175), Austria (€154) and Estonia (€128). Residents of the Czech Republic (€46), Poland (€44), and Greece (€45) spent the least on hotel stays.

It is noted that Austrians (138 euros) and residents of Luxembourg (98 euros) paid the most for hotel accommodation in their own country in 2022.
