The European Commission sounds the alarm: Russia may use another banned weapon in Ukraine

“We are seeing signs of Russia’s possible use of chemical or biological weapons in the war in Ukraine,” European Commission Foreign Affairs spokesman Peter Stano said. The EU calls for an end to the escalation of hostilities, including with the use of prohibited weapons. Russia has already used cluster bombs in Ukraine, also prohibited by international law.

– If you use chemical weapons, it will be very bad. We have received information about a possible attack by the Russian occupying forces in Ukraine using chemical weapons, a representative of the European Commission said.

Prohibited weapons

He believes that these signs are based on the fact that Russian officials are spreading information about “the so-called biochemical laboratory and other nonsense, which is absolutely not true.” – The EU is ready for any scenario, but let’s not speculate and focus on efforts to stop the aggression against Ukrainians and Ukraine, the withdrawal of Russian troops and find a solution to this crisis through negotiations, and not by force and weapons, banned weapons – Stano added.

“So far, we are witnessing irresponsible actions on the territory of Ukraine, which consist not only in the shelling of civilian infrastructure, but also in the shelling of nuclear power plants,” said the representative of the European Commission. “This is very dangerous, and the international community is reacting in such a way as to do everything possible to stop the Russian occupation machine from further attacks, including with the use of prohibited weapons,” he stressed.

Attack near the Polish border

Stano also condemned the attack on the International Training Center for Peacekeeping Missions in Yavoriv. “We condemn this attack just as we condemn all other attacks in Ukraine,” he added.

On Sunday, 35 people were killed and 134 injured in a Russian rocket attack on the International Center for Peace and Security Operations in the Lviv region in western Ukraine. This centre, better known as the Yawor military training ground, is located less than 40 km from Lviv and about 20 km from the Polish border.
