The European Union tonight approved the fifth package of sanctions against Russia in connection with the war in Ukraine, according to DPA, citing its own sources.
The Permanent Representatives of the Member States in Brussels gave the green light to punitive measures.
This news was confirmed by representatives of France, which chairs the EU Council on a rotating basis, according to BTA.
Sanctions include a ban on imports of Russian coal, timber and vodka. Exports of high-tech goods and weapons to Russia are banned. Russian bank accounts under EU jurisdiction will be frozen. In addition, Russian-flagged vessels are banned from entering European ports.
The new sanctions will also affect Russian businessmen, the military and businesses linked to the invasion of Ukraine.
