Today, the European Parliament has elected Roberta Metsola of the European People’s Party (EPP) as the institution’s president ahead of the 2024 European elections.
Metsola , who previously served as Vice-President of the European Parliament, is now 43 years old. She is a lawyer by profession and has four children.
The new president is a native of Malta. Metsola was elected in the first round of voting and received 458 votes out of 309 required by an absolute majority.
