Accession to the EU, investments, energy security. Poland about the “plan for Ukraine”

The recovery plan for Ukraine, support for the country’s fast path to the EU, scientific cooperation, joint investments and energy security – these are the main points of the “plan for Ukraine” proposed by the Polish prime minister.

In the afternoon, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki arrived in Brussels. The head of the Polish government began a meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen around 16:15. The main topic of the talks was support for Ukraine, which has been under fire from Russian troops for six days.

Mateusz Morawiecki: we talked about how to give hope to Ukraine

After the meeting, Mateusz Morawiecki said that the unity of the West in the face of Russian aggression against Ukraine “surprised Putin.” He stressed that Moscow will take advantage of the fact that Ukraine not only suffers losses in the war, which “becomes more terrible every hour,” but also “loses chances for the future, hopes for development.”

“That is why we talked with President von der Leyen about how to give this hope to Ukraine,” the Prime Minister said. – Today the most important thing is to force Ukraine to defend its sovereignty. He stressed that Ukraine, which defends its territorial integrity and independence, stands for European values.

He added that since Ukraine is “fighting for freedom,” the situation is ruled out in which its relations with the European Union will be weaker than before the war. Hence the appeals, incl. Poland to present this country with European perspectives, he said. According to him, “it is clear in Brussels that Ukraine is becoming more and more fertile ground for joining the European Union,” “in order to move faster along the path of accession.”

PM: We need a plan for the restoration of Ukraine

The head of the Polish government noted that Poland demanded the most severe sanctions against Russia for the attack on Ukraine. He stressed that those that have already been introduced are painful for Moscow. “The Russian economy has taken a heavy hit,” he added. He pointed out that the consequences of the already imposed sanctions are effective. “But there is nothing to deceive here: every day the same economy is supplied with hard currency through the sale of oil and gas,” the prime minister said. He added that among the topics of his talks was the raw material independence of the continent from Russia. He noted that the proceeds from their sale allow Putin to “finance the war machine.”

Mateusz Morawiecki also spoke about the need to create a fast route for Ukraine to the European Union, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said in Brussels. He also stressed the need to prepare a 100 billion euro reconstruction plan and an investment package for Ukraine. – So that in the coming years this destroyed infrastructure, destroyed hospitals, schools in residential areas could be rebuilt, – he said.
