A new blow to tourism in the EU: it is calculated how much tickets will become more expensive in the coming years

Tickets – at least in the European Union, but most likely around the world – will rise in price by at least 16%, and this will be another blow to tourism.

Surprisingly, this is not due to sanctions and fuel prices, but to the continuation of the West’s “green” policy and the fight against harmful emissions and carbon footprint. However, such a rise will happen only if the proposal of the European Commission, which provoked sharp criticism from aviation experts, is accepted. Well, we should not forget about the large-scale increase in gas prices – which will also give additional impetus to this 16%.

This is a package of measures from the European Commission, the so-called Fit for 55. This proposal aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% from 1990 levels over the next eight years. The proposal has drawn sharp criticism from the ACI Europe Airport Association, who say all proposed measures have been announced: “without a comprehensive assessment of their impact on flights”.

“The EU’s proposals will lead to a significant increase in tariffs,” warn aviation experts. As a result, tourists will face a new blow as ticket prices soar. The EU’s emissions reduction scheme could increase the cost of the flight by an average of 16% by 2030, they say.

And tourist routes to countries such as Spain, Greece, and Italy will be among the most affected. Demand for travel services will fall by the projected 11% – say, researchers. The scheme will eventually “harm regions that are heavily dependent on tourism,” the report said. Interregional traffic will also be affected. In general, according to ACI Europe Director General Olivier Jankovec, the proposal from the European Commission threatens “undesirable and unpredictable consequences.”

Meanwhile, tourists in Europe – no matter how much they missed the holiday during the coronavirus – are beginning to reconsider their plans after the terrible problems at airports across the country. Turrinok faced mass cancellations. Read the details at the link.
