“The Ukrainian crisis is not what we would like to see,” he said, according to Chinese television.
“As permanent members of the UN Security Council and as the world’s two leading economies, we must not only put China-US relations on the right track, but also shoulder our international responsibility and work for peace and tranquility in the world,” the Chinese leader added. .
“The relationship between the two countries cannot lead to armed conflict,” Xi Jinping said in a short report broadcast on Chinese television.
“Conflicts and opposition are not needed by anyone. Peace and security are benefits that the international community should take to heart,” he added.
Before today’s conversation, a Chinese aircraft carrier crossed the Taiwan Strait. The American destroyer Ralph Johnson, armed with guided missiles, followed the aircraft carrier for at least part of the route, Reuters notes.
